This webpage tells you how to play Murderball on Team Fortress Classic, and provides you tips for play. Screenshots are included!
Firstly, if you haven't got the latest murderball (Version 2002), you can get it from TFC @ Jolt by clicking here. Install it to your /tfc/maps area.
The objective of Murderball, is to hold the Ball for as long as possible, longer than the other 3 teams, without getting murdered. With alot of people, this comes trickly.
To be honest, there is no "Best" class for both collecting AND holding onto the ball. When there are 16+ people all spamming the center, if your a fast class, like Medic then you will get killed too quickly, and if your a slow class, like HWguy, you will get killed while running back - so be who you want. Normally, Sniper is a banned class, because it's purely lame on Murderball. In this webpage, I will be using Medic.
The Base
I will be giving you a tour around the map first of all. It is important you know the map, for places like hiding with the ball, building sentry guns, point of attack, etc.
Here is the spawn room. It is the same for every base, each team have exacly the same base to make things fair. Note, if you attempt to go into the spawn room after leaving, the door doesn't open. If you do manage to get in with the Ball, you will get killed and the ball drops.
These are the battlements, where you get a view of the whole field, and the enterances of the 3 other bases. Their main doors are guarded by a wall to prevent direct spam.
When you leave the spawn room, this is the view you get from the top floor, looking left. Not much to look at, it's a pretty small base - but there are several hiding areas. Note the ladder on the right half way down the ramp. There is a small place to hide or build a gun there.
There is also a side entry to the base on the left which you should watch out for!
There is a bit more on the bottom floor. To the left, is the main resupply room. There is ALOT of bags, health and armor in there.
The big door ahead is the main exit to the base. If the ball is in your base, expect crouds of enemies to come through that.
To the left of the main door, there is a small corner which is good for putting a sentry gun, or hiding with the ball.
To the other side of the main door, there is a lift that takes you to the top floor. A nice quick escape!
Let's take a look at the resupply room!
To the left, you'll find all the medkits. ANY team can use them, so if your in an enemy base, you can use their medkits.
If you look to the right of the vending machine, there is a small hole in the wall useful for hiding inside. You could build an ammo despensor for extra hiding, and a sentry nearby for protection.
There are also some ammo bags which give you alot of your needs. They do not provide health or armor.
The armor is on the right. Note, if you have the ball, you can NOT collect more armor. As a team, it is the engineers job to provide you with all the armor you need. Your teams score could depends on it!
The 2 ammo bags on the floor just provide you with basic ammo, no health, armor or grenades in them.
The bag ontop of the cage restocks ammo, AND grenades. You can't use this with the ball, so make sure you stock up on grenades before getting the ball.
There is also a grenade bag under the ramp, which you can't use with the ball.
One big point of attack you should be aware of, is the side entrance tunnel. Expect enemies to use it, you should too.
As far as I know, the tunnel is too thin for a sentry gun to be built in, but a dispensor can easilly be built inside it.
One end of the tunnel is half way up the ramp in the base...
...and the other end leads directly outside.
That's about all of the inside you need to know about. Now, we'll take a look outside. This is what a base looks like outside. Notice that the main door is guarded from direct spam, by a wall. The small doorway on the left is the side enterance tunnel.
The battlements ontop is where snipers normally just camp and shoot anything that moves in the field. These days, sniper is a banned class on this map, to prevent such lameness.
Each base is clearly marked by colours, a sign, and coloured lighting, so there are absolutely NO excuses for going to the wrong one!
An easy enterance you should be aware of, is the battlements. To the right (left from inside), there is a way anyone could rocket jump, pipejump, conc, or whatever, get into the battlements easilly. This is normally the best way to take out lame snipers, simply sneak up to this, get up and take 'em out!
That's pretty much all you need to know about the base itself.
The Ball
The ball, is directly in the centre of the map. You seriously can't miss it!
When you pick this up, everyone will know it!
You get messaged that YOU have the ball, your team get messaged that their team has the ball, and other teams will get messaged that an enemy team has the ball, so you can't take the ball in a sneaky way very well.
Once you have the ball, RUN back to YOUR base and hide with it. You will most likely have to defend yourself too. Your team should have at least 1 engineer, running a sentry gun, and providing armor to the ball holder. Armor DOES play an important part, so a lazy engineer will mean your team is likely to lose.
Once you get to your base, EVERYONE is notified that the ball has entered a base!
If the message is for somewhat reason missed, you can simply look at the centre of the map to find out.
Also, an arrow is shown ontop of the base that it is in there.
This is how everyone comes so quickly and kills you.
When you have the ball, you must in your best efforts, hide with it, and defend yourself from enemies trying to kill you. You will have to work as a team to do this.
If someone else on your team has the ball, do your best to protect them. You don't need to be too near them, maybe you should guard the enterances to your base.
When the person with the ball is killed, or drops the ball by them pressing their Drop Item key, everyone is notified that the ball has returned.
This is where you all rush back outside to get it again. Feel free to spam the outside with emps and mirvs. It's totally allowed, and one of the only ways to GET the ball.
Holding the ball on your team for longer, provides you more points, then the winning team is obviously the team with the most points at the end.
Thank you for reading this page. Enjoy the game, and don't get murdered!
